U.S.S. Pyro Guest Book

Because of the capabilities of the new guestbook we no longer have a need to archive, but for messages prior to 2007 you can still View Archives Here

With the latest update of the Guestbook software, the addresses that you select when you respond to a shipmate have been "munged", this is to protect you from the email harvesters that haunt the internet.

Just replace the ~AT~ with the @ symbol and the ~DOT~ with a period.

There are now 202 messages in our guestbook.

I have a hand-typed Cruise Log from my uncle, Samuel Grant Deal, who served aboard the U; S; S; Pyro (AE-1) from 11 May 1923 until 14 Sep 1924; Is anyone interested is receiving a transcribed copy of the log? It shows date and place of departure, miles to destination, and place and date of arrival; It shows the Pyro "placed out of commission at Bremerton, N; Yd;" on 10 September, 1924; Obviously the years aboard shown below are for my uncle - not me;

I was so surprised to see that the Pyro had a bulletin board! I did not serve on the Pyro, but had 2 older brothers who did; Harold Alvin Bird and his brother John; Harold was killed in Viet Nam; John now lives in California and I in Washington State; I guess I am just writing this to keep the memory of Harold alive; I wish he was still with us;

We have a little less than a few days and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America;

On Friday, September 11th, 2009, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States; Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this eighth anniversary of one of our country's worst tragedies; We do this to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who today are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms; In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism; Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared; Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity; Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds Action Plan: So, here's what we need you to do ;

Send this as an email to at least 10 people you know; Just copy and paste the message!

Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11; Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day; Thank you for your participation; God Bless You and God Bless America!

My Step Dad has been missing since 2001, when my mom passed away; I have been trying to find him and would appreciate any help; He served on the Pyro somewhere in his 14 year tour of approx 1966-1980; His name was Karl Kelii King and he was a Gunner's Mate; He was last seen in Oregon in late 2001;
