Shipmates, great to see some familiar names and learn the names of many that walked her decks before me. The PYRO and the Navy in general was a great learning experience for me. Hats off to everyone and happy 2005!

Hello,

Just found this URL. Good job. I wanted to add some names for the XO's. Before CDR John Bepko was LCDR Everman. Don't remember his first name.
After CDR Bepko was LCDR Calvin Fisher. Don't remember the months but was 94-96 time frame.

Former LTJG YEE, USN.

I came aboard in March of 1967 which was just a few months after you were tranferred, and PYRO remained as the finest engine room and M&B divisions in the fleet that it was my privilege to serve as a division officer. The tradition contined under Chief Martz......Byers, Wisher, Hale, Chief Vogel, Eckstein....these are but a
few of the crew that made it appear as if main control ran itself and put real meaning behind the log room plaque......"AS THE ENGINEERS GO, SO GOES THE SHIP."
It was a pleasure to serve with all of you--and a HAPPY AND BLESSED THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS!!!!

Hiya shipmates!!! Just thought I would drop by and say WAZZZUP!!! I sure miss the old boat. Sure had alot of good times on her, especially sweat-pac 91. I have some pictures I took from some of our underway times.. I am trying to find a way to get them on the computer so I can show people what to much mojo is all about. :) Or me and MM3 Gramley sitting on top of a 20+ story building in Honk Kong so we could take a picture of our feet to show people how high up we were... I dont think we would have done it sober. LOL
So if anyone remembers me, drop me a line sometime. I could literally yap about pyro days forever. I would do it all over again if I could. So, if there are any Holy Snipes out there... Lets Hear It!!

Go to the Photos link on this website and bring up the K.C. Holm Benecia Album in the "Choose Album" block. There you will see the PYRO at the end of a nest of ships as of 2000.As to whether it is still in that location today is possibly another story. Maybe someone out there who has been by recently can help. Don't look for a hull # though as the Navy usually puts on a few last coats of grey primer(anti-corrosive)over the entire ship in preparation for mothballing.

Man,
I went to the bay area for a short vacation a couple monts back. The place has changed a lot. Most of the bases are privately owned...Mare Island is in the middle of toxic clean up (jeeze, go navy!). Many of the places some of us use to hang out at in SF are closed...It is almost depressing. Saw the Pyro in the mothballs on the way to Concord from Benecia...there is a new bridge there, now.
Has it realy been that many years?

I made Westpac with the Pyro in 1980. I didn't know it back then, but now in the year 2004, I get excited and happy when talking about my Navy days and the Pyro. I transfered to the Enterprise in 1981.
Does anyone know where EM3 Rocky Montoya is? How about BTFN Tony Smith, States and Strauss?
I really kick myself in the head now because I lost my Pyro cruisebook. I took 80 percent of the pictures in it!!! Dang it.
Well, anyway, now I work in computers in NYC. I am married with three kids in NJ.
I am also a Navy Reservist. I might as well invest my four years in the Navy towards a retirement.
I served in the War on Saddam for six month last year. I was with a port security unit in Greece so there were no angry bullets flying over my head.
We MUST stop all of these Moslem Terrorists before they get a Nuke. They are more dangerous than the USSR back in the 80's because at least a Communist dictatorship is run by 'rational' men.
Anyway, I must get going.
If anyone wants knows where to get the 1980 Cruisebook, let me know.
Thanks.

Well shipmates,
My first round of Chemo went well. So why am I as sick as a dog? Great to hear from Curtis States, Chuck Wells, Stan Sato. I would really like to hear from more of my former shipmates from West-Pac '80. Hey, what ever happened to BMC Scott?

Lotta memories many good some bad. Many lessons learned from my shipmates, particularly in OE01, didn’t get realized until much later in life. Found the Pyro memorabilia box when remodeling the daughter’s bedroom and got me thinking about all the wonderful people on that boat.
Would love to hear from yaz

ANCHORS AWEIGH FOR THE OZARK MOUNTAINS

Branson, Missouri in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, is our destination for next year’s Reunion…April 6-10, 2005. Branson offers a wealth of diverse entertainment with approximately 70 world class shows, 10 challenging golf courses, numerous Table Rock Lake activities, 3 outlet malls and other specialty boutiques as well as historic landmarks and wonderful mountain views.

We will be working closely with a military reunion specialist at the host hotel to coordinate all reservations for lodging and optional entertainment and meal packages with flyer and registration information coming out later this year. This service will include staffing and many other services to insure our best reunion ever and registration will be offered by written form, toll-free number or online website.

Springfield/Branson Regional Airport is closest---served by American, Northwest and United Airlines with connecting cities in Denver, Dallas,Memphis, Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit. Shuttle service will be offered for $30.00 one way per person or $60.00 round trip per person. Rental cars are available at several rental agencies located near the airport.

LODGE OF THE OZARKS has been chosen as our host hotel with a rate of $74.00/night including 11.475% room tax. This rate will be offered for 3 days prior and 3 days after our reunion period for those who want an extended stay. The Lodge( viewed on line at(: www.lodgeoftheozarks.com) offers first-class accomodations and is located on “the strip” (Hwy. 76) with many amenities, its own restaurant , and within walking distance of a variety of theaters, shopping, and other restaurants…….and…….. Mickey Gilleys is right next door!!!!!

Entertainment Package # 1
Friday, April 8 …….will include motor transportation, tour of the Veterans Memorial Museum, The Shoji Tabuchi Show and the ShowBoat Branson Belle Dinner Cruise and Show. These are the most popular attractions at an all inclusive per person cost of $ 132.00.

Gourmet Breakfast ….Package #2
Saturday Morning, April 9……..will include a private gourmet breakfast buffet at Club Vegas with Military Honor Guard providing ceremonies to honor our deceased shipmates prior to the membership meeting at a per person cost of $14.00.

Platted Dinner Banquet…….Package #3
Saturday Evening, April 9th……..To be held in the Crystal Hall at the hotel with live entertainment provided. The dinner will include a cash bar and a menu selection of either Prime Rib or King Salmon at a per person cost of $45.00

During my site visit, it became quite obvious that Branson focuses on the miliary reunions and they seem to go out of their way to welcome and recognize veterans at every show and attraction. It makes you proud of having served in the military again…you will be reminded of that feeling of pride at every turn.
DON’T MISS OUT…………MAKE PLANS NOW TO COME TO THE HEART OF THE OZARKS AND THE HEART OF THE USA……./BRANSON in 2005!!!!!!!

Hello gang!

I just wanted to touch base with all of my former shipmates before heading off to Chemo-therapy next Monday.

ET2 Stan Sato, it was great hearing from you. I tried to return an E-mail, but it wouldn't take.

Looking forward to hearing from all of my wacky shipmates that did their time with me. :)
